Born and raised in South East London, where she still lives, Eminé Ali Rushton graduated from Durham University in 2002 with a first class Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. After two years of work experience across various titles, including Vogue, GQ, Harvey Nichols Magazine, more and SHE, she began freelancing as a beauty writer. Now, with 10 years experience across beauty, health, trend and wellbeing journalism, she has written for a wealth of different titles that span the publishing spectrum – everything from ELLE, i-D, NYLON and Liberty to Weekend Magazine, Metro and The London Lite – the latter was home to her health and beauty column ‘SPA SECRETS’ which ran daily for 2 years.

Presently beauty director at thinking woman’s glossy PSYCHOLOGIES, Eminé specialises in beauty features and visuals that celebrate truth, and make readers think more deeply about themselves. Her niche is for ‘real’ beauty copy that comes with a distinctive voice – candid, honest and witty – with a dash of attitude too. She has racked up work for several big indie titles, including i-D, Amelia’s Magazine, Urban Junkies, and the Condé Nast-distributed GLASS, where she was Beauty Editor. She has also been contributing to the cult indie title NYLON (and NYLON GUYS) for five years – cherry-picking top London launches to grace the beauty news pages of the New York-based titles.

A keen blogger – Eminé founded Miss Malcontent Seeks Truth in Beauty back in 2007 with one aim – to be utterly honest about the very best, and worst, beauty products on the market. She is also the author of we make up as we go along, a blog that provides a light-hearted insight to the ins and outs of the beauty editor’s day-to-day, from press trips and launches to peeks into colleagues’ make-up bags – recently featured in the December 2010 issue of Marie Claire as one of the ‘bloggers you have to read right now‘.

As a health & beauty expert, she is represented by Limelight Management and regularly comments on relevant matters for print & radio. Most recently she worked alongside several other high-profile experts, including Plum Sykes, to produce a segment on travelling in style for British Airways – the podcast received over 1 million downloads in its first year.
